Odessa National Medical University “ONMU” is the largest Medical University of Ukraine and one of the Oldest Medical University of Eastern and Western Europe. Medical Faculty was opened on the 1st of September , 1900 in Odessa under the Great Russian Imperial University “Novorossysk University”. In 1922 Medical Faculty of Novorosisk University in Odessa was reformed and was given the Status of Higher medical Institution and was renamed to “Odessa Medical Institute”. After independence of Ukraine in 1993 Odessa medical Institute was given the highest 4th level of Accreditation and was renamed to “Odessa State Medical University” and in 1997 got the National status and was renamed to “Odessa National Medical University”.
Odessa National Medical University “ONMU” was the first among medical universities in Ukraine which got the National Statusin Ukrainian Medical Universities. Odessa National Medical University is the most prestigious medical university in Russia, Ukraine and Europe to study Medicine, Dentistry, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Nursing, Postgraduate Education and Clinical residency program. The scientists of Odessa national Medical university made great contribution to Ukrainian Medicine.
All our educational programs are regulated and approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The degrees and diplomas issued to graduated foreign students by the Odessa National Medical University “ONMU”are legalized by the Ministry of Heath of Ukraine and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Odessa National Medical University “ONMU” is recognized and listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). This accreditation allows the Odessa National Medical University “ONMU” to be eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examinations and enter Postgraduate Medical (Residency) training in United States.

The students and graduates of Odessa National Medical University “ONMU” are eligible to participate in the United States Medical Licensing Examination & receive ECFMG certification. The ECFMG certification requires all graduates to have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (both sections), submit a final transcript, and provide a copy of the graduate’s diploma for verification. Once ECFMG certification has been granted the graduates are eligible for Postgraduate Medical education (Residency Training) in the United States.
All prospective and current students who wish to practice in the United States are encouraged to educate themselves on the licensure policies in their respective states. Odessa National Medical University started training students in English language in 1993 and it was the first Medical University in Ukraine, Russia and Eastern Europe to start training in English. Odessa national medical university was the example to other medical universities of Ukraine, Russia and Eastern Europe to start training foreign students in English medium of instruction and later on a lot of other medical universities also started medical faculties in English medium.
Odessa national medical university teaching staff consists of more than 1000 doctors, among them there are 106 Professors, 410 Associate Professors, 20 Academicians of Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and 42 members of Foreign Academies, 39 honored workers of Science & Technology, 10 winners of State Prizes and other International awards.
This is the highest number of Academicians working in any one Medical University of Ukraine, USSR and in whole Europe.
Odessa National Medical University has 8 faculties, medical college and Preparatory department for Foreign students. 58 theoretical departments and 45 Clinical departments work under Odessa National Medical University. Except them ONMU has One University Multiple clinic and one ONMU dental clinic. Now more than 9000 students are training at Odessa National Medical University, among them there are 1900 foreign students from 52 countries.
Odessa National Medical University has trained more than 600 Professors, 1300 Doctors of Sciences and about 80,000 doctors since its existence for than 100 years, among them there are more than 10,000 foreign citizens and about more than 600 foreign Doctors of sciences.
In the recent years, ONMU created the unique scientific reasearch and medical departments, which includes ONMU dental clinic, ONMU multidisciplinary University Clinic, Research institute of Molecular-Genetics and Cellular Medicine, Clinical Research Institute of Biophysics. With the help of Ministry of Health of Ukraine at Odessa National Medical University the following Diagnostics centers were opened: Cardiorhematology, Eye Microsurgery, Synthesis, Endoscopiy and Laser Surgery, Pediatric cardiology, Toxicology and others.
The ONMU has well established library with computer rooms and electronic library which include 1140 seats. Students are issued with a ticket of junior and senior year and they can use library books any time.
